On the other end of the spectrum from the last Unfinished Painting, here’s “A Drop of Light,” a contemplative acoustic song. It’s from a time when I was listening to a lot of Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson, and I was trying to figure out how to capture his particular balance between poeticism and meaning.
More than anything, this is one of those songs where I was initially just going for vibes, and over the course of writing it, a loose story developed. The song also kind of became part of yet another concept album idea, because I cannot get away from roots. I actually have a pretty clear mental image of what happens in this song, but I’ll leave it ambiguous for the time being. Lyrics on Patreon.
